Last Weekend Wrap for 2012!

That is how I started off my Friday!!!  Lots of donuts and the remains of the GINORMOUS red velvet cake. I really wanted some red velvet cake but I somehow made it through Friday unscathed.

I took a half day of vacation. 😛

I’m not sure I would have made it unscathed without the half day because so many people were on vacation, the donuts and cake were still sitting there at noon.


Thursday – 1400 Calories

Thursday was tough. I had to endure the leftover poboys and the red velvet cake. That stupid cake would normally have been demolished in one day but with all the vacationers out of the office it lasted all week. 😛

I made it through the day with no cheats. Also made it through the night. I was tempted by another cake after work, but I didn’t touch it.

Friday – 1450 Calories

I was able to run the gauntlet of red velvet cake and donuts without cheating.

Saturday – 2100 Calories

When will I learn my lesson. I can’t be trusted with pistachios in the house. I had the

BRILLIANT {sarcasm} idea that I would ease back into Atkins with some pistachios as snacks.  I ate about ELEVENTY BILLION pistachios. I simply can not be trusted around salty snacks in my apartment.

Sunday – 1200 Calories

Breakfast – Hamburger patty with cheese

Lunch – Pork loin with cheese

Dinner – Pork loin with salad

Snack – Pistachios

I regained control on Sunday although it is still early. Turkey burgers are off the menu. Those things had too much sodium and I need to get back to eating less sodium. I haven’t been paying much attention to sodium the last 6 months and I need to get back to watching my intake.

I swapped the turkey burgers for hamburger. 2 turkey burgers hit me for 1400 mgs of sodium. 2 hamburgers have only 240 mgs. HUGE difference. I was back over 3k sodium most days and my menu today only hit me for 1250.

The Bike


It was a dreadful week on the bike front. The worst week since I purchased the stationary bike in mid October.

I rode only 3 days last week for about 21 miles. Not good. I took some time off for the holidays then I was super tired and weak the other days. My allergies have been CRUSHING me the last 2 weeks.

I said I was done with lvl03 but I needed to do something to enable a longer ride today. I was only good for 35 minutes but at least I rode about 17mph the whole time. Not a great ride but just about half as good as all of last week combined so this week should be much better than last week.

The Scale

Not good but at least I am below my recent high. It seems most of my online pals have been having a horrific time getting motivated. Several of us have stopped posting our weights because they are too darn painful to post.

Starting New Year’s Day, I will post the weight again and I will also post the high water mark I hit. We ALL need to get back to that accountability of posting our weights.

We also know what has worked for us in the past. We can’t shape the diet we WANT, we need to get back to the diet that WORKED.  You know it. 😛

For me that means Atkins and it means actually STICKING to Atkins.

The Biggest Loser competition will start on January 2nd or so I hope. I haven’t heard any mention of it. It is possible that Gail won’t head up the competition this year because she doesn’t have much or anything to lose. I might be taking the reigns of the competition. Hopefully we have some real contestants. Last year Gail and Mr. National Guard really motivated me to lose a nice chunk of weight and hit my all time low.  I hope they are both in this year because I need that motivation again. 😀

More Christmas Re-Fattening

I’m up 8 pounds at the moment after my Christmas Eve and Christmas Day feasting. I actually didn’t eat until I was about to explode. I didn’t do a good job but I also didn’t go crazy. My one small victory over the holiday season was that I did not bring home any leftovers. 😀

I wanted to bring some home. There was a TON of food left, but I was able to stand my ground and skip the leftovers. I did however bring home my dessert. 😛

I went a bit crazy on the Egg Nog. That stuff is pure sugar with a zillion calories. I think I had about 3200 calories of Nog. I usually have one bottle while watching It’s A Wonderful Life.  This year, I bought the Egg Nog a week before Christmas and it did not make it to Christmas Eve. Not even close, so I had to hit up several gas stations Christmas Eve to find some more Nog.

The Bike

I took Monday and Tuesday off. I almost skipped tonight but at the last-minute, I was able to force myself up on the bike. It wasn’t a very good ride, but 25 minutes is better than nothing at all.

red velvet cakeFirst up, I had to avoid the GINORMOUS red velvet cake someone placed on the grazing table this morning. It was tough staying away from the cake. I love me some red velvet.

Most of the people in the office are taking time off for the holidays so I didn’t think we would have a free lunch today. I was wrong.

Poboys 12-26That is what was left around 2pm. Roast beef poboys in the back, muffalettas in the middle and cheeseburger, meatball and hot sausage in the first tray.  It was tough fending off the poboy temptations but I was able to stick with just a salad with some grilled chicken.

Snack – Turkey burger with cheese

As you can see, there were plenty of leftovers. Plus about 80% of the cake. Temptations will still be screaming “eat me” tomorrow.

Xmas cookies

Those cookies didn’t tempt me much, but the cake did and will tempt me sorely tomorrow.

I went shopping after work to hit Wal-Mart for the 50% off on Christmas candles. I also needed to get the fixings for my New Years black-eyed peas and rice.

I bought a few cheap ornaments and 7 boxes of scented candles for 50% off. I did however make one big mistake.

Tip of the Day

Don’t shop hungry.

I did a great job staying away from the bad food at work but I almost blew it with my trip to Wal-Mart. My brain had me convinced that the large meat lovers deli pizza, was low in calories and totally healthy. 😛

It was a serious struggle to step away from the pizza, but in the end I prevailed.  I know better than to shop hungry. I was starving when I rolled into the store and that was a huge risk. Shopping hungry almost always leads to poor choices. Not smart of me to do that.

Don’t shop hungry!!!

Christmas Feasting

Too bad I wasn’t feasting on fruit and vegetables. 😛

The re-fattening season has begun in earnest! 😀

Sunday through Wednesday, I did a pretty good job. Then the office feasting started. The Christmas lunch was a disaster and that disaster carried over to Friday with plenty of leftovers.

I knew I was in trouble when Thursday morning started with this.

I dove into the pecan king cake. I wish that was the only dessert I hit on Thursday but I also had some cheesecake, pecan pie and pumpkin! Total disaster!!!

Friday started off badly with donut day and rolled into leftovers from Thursday.

I regained my composure Saturday until Saturday evening when my car somehow made its way to Taco Bell. 😛

Needless to say, the scale was not very nice.

I started this week off right with a nice low-calorie day but I have Christmas Eve with the family then Christmas day lunch with the family.

The Bike

I just hopped on the bike and did a short ride while watching Charlie Brown Christmas & The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

I didn’t have much gas in the tank tonight. I was planning for a long ride but after 30 minutes I was done. I have dropped level 03. No more level 03 on the bike. Level 04 will be the minimum going forward.

Even though I ate like a pig at the trough last week, I did have a good bike week.  I hit the bike 5 nights for a total of 60.5 Miles. I need to keep up that kind of effort while regaining some control over the mouth and stomach. 😛

Christmas Candy!!!

I was able to skip the donuts and the pizza but the chocolate pretzels got me. I don’t even really like pretzels but the sweet and salty combo was amazingly awesome. Even with the pretzels, I had a decent day. Christmas candy got me on Monday too. Someone dropped off some toffee and I nibbled on it. 😛

I wanted to do another 60 minute ride but I didn’t have it in me.  At least I stopped the recent pattern of skipping Monday and Tuesday. I need another nice ride tomorrow night and then I will take Thursday off as usual.

I’m going to start adding some additional exercise once the new year hits. I’m going to add sit-ups and push-ups to the routine. At least that is the plan at the moment. 😛

Can I Do That Week Over?

No. I didn’t run off with the gypsies.

I wish I could say I just awakened from a week long slumber.

The Sirens definitely led me astray!

The evil witch did an excellent job of fattening me up this week!

Terrible week. I’ve been in seclusion. It started out fine. I had a nice ride last Sunday and kept the calories low. Then I had a nice ride on Monday and kept the calories low.  Then the rest of the week happened.

Tuesday I ate everything that wasn’t nailed down in my apartment. Wednesday was worse. I thought Thursday couldn’t get any worse until it did. Friday was a mess.

I didn’t ride Tuesday through Friday. I regained my composure on Saturday long enough to have a ride. I ended up doing 3 rides for about 35 miles last week.

My office Christmas party was Saturday night and I didn’t have any intention of trying to diet. I didn’t go overboard but most of the food was fried finger foods and stuffed mushrooms.  I couldn’t stop eating the fried soft-shell crabs.

Now, the only thing to do is brush off the dirt and get back to work. I’ve been cooking and cleaning today. I just finished a 1 hour 16.7 mile ride, so at least I’ve started this week off right.

The bad news is I am going to end this year heavier than last year. The good news is that the office biggest loser contest starts on January 2nd. I just need to try to keep the holiday damage lower than last year. Heck, I went crazy last week and it wasn’t even holiday related. The office Christmas lunch is this coming Thursday and so far there really hasn’t been much Christmas food in the office.

Gale won the office biggest loser contest last year but she has done a fantastic job of keeping most of the weight off so there is no way she can repeat as the champion this year. The crown will be mine for the taking.
