Hungry Tuesday

I’ve been really hungry the last couple of days. Switching back to my fat burning engine has left me a tad starved. I’m still trying to tweak my menu but at the moment I am stumped on how to stay under 20 carbs while not overdosing on fat. In the past I would add more olive oil or mayo to my meal to get some extra calories but I’m trying to cut down a little on fat too so I am not sure what to do right now.

Once I reach my final goal I do plan to add fruit and grains back into the mix in moderation so once I am done with losing and switch to maintenance things should be easier.

Moving back into Induction (20 carbs or less a day) has really helped this time. Sometimes it works magic and sometimes it is just as slow as other weight loss methods. This time it is definitely working a bit of magic.  7 pound in less than a week.   10 pounds to my almost final goal. 173 was my final goal but I think I would like to break the 169 barrier then settle maintenance on 170.  I might lose a few more just to give me a little leeway because I am sure I will add a few as I slowly move back to eating like a normal human being. 😛

Yesterday’s Meal Plan

Breakfast – Chicken thigh and salad

Lunch – Hamburger patty and salad

Dinner – Tuna with avocados

Snack – String cheese

Calories – 1100

Biking Update

None. I couldn’t marshal the forces to get out there yesterday.  The wind was not as bad as I thought it would be but I just couldn’t get the energy to head out. My legs were still sore from Saturday.

I’ll make today’s ride a little longer than normal to makeup for it as long as the wind behaves.

Aquarium Update

Hmmmm…… I had given Blutto an apology for the dead shrimp but I am not so sure he didn’t have a hand in some of the deaths. I saw him attempt to kill a couple a few minutes ago.

He won’t touch his food anymore. He seems to only have a taste for shrimp so I retract my apology even though I probably did kill most of them with my accidental poisoning. 😀

Tip Of The Day

This tip is for me.

Don’t let a big head derail your diet. Don’t let success cause you to take 2 steps backwards.

Now that I beat Cad to 185 and reached my long-term goal of 185, I need to keep a level head and not use my victory as an excuse to go crazy.  Part of my brain keeps telling me I need to go get some fajitas and chips and salsa.

Yea I know, this is just like yesterday’s tip, but I like to write about tips that I need each day. This one is sorely needed today. I am hungry and it would be very easy to say I am 2 pounds below my original long-term goal so it would be fine to pop out for a nice decadent feast.

Now that I am back in Induction, there aren’t many places  I can go and stick to my carb limit plus I think the dark side of my brain would win out if I went out to eat. I don’t think I would opt for the healthier options at the moment.

So for all of you out there, don’t let your success cause you to revert back to your old habits.  Admittedly it is getting harder and harder for me. But that is just my body readjusting back to Atkins. In a few days, I won’t be as hungry so things will be back to normal. For now I need to keep my eye on the next goal and not think too much about the one I just passed.

Happy Dieting, see you tomorrow,

Short Saturday

Weight Statistics

323/188.9/185

Getting close to my low again so full hermit mode is in effect this weekend. Day 1 of Atkins went well. I’ll take a 2 pound loss. 😀

Yesterday’s Meal Plan

Chicken is back on the menu, but unfortunately my crock pot chicken doesn’t look as appealing or tasty. 😛

Breakfast – Tuna with avocados

Lunch – Hamburger patty with cheese slice and salad

Dinner – Chicken thigh with salad

Snack – String cheese

Calories – 1250

It is going to take me a while to adjust back to Atkins. I’m having a hard time coming up with calories. I had to add some extra olive oil to get up to 1200.

Aquarium Update

More carnage. I bought 20 more ghost shrimp to hang out with Blutto. I think I did that Thursday and as of this morning about 15 of the 20 have left their mortal coil. Something in the tank is killing them but not killing Blutto.  I haven’t put clean water in since I added the new shrimp so I didn’t poison them like I did the last time. Oh well, the shrimp experiment is over. No more.

Bike Riding

No ride on Friday. I decided to switch my off day to Friday and ride on Saturday because it was supposed to be super cool.

Tip Of The Day

Chart your progress. I originally started keeping all my weight statistics and food information in an excel spreadsheet, then I moved it all online. It is important that you keep a log of your weights and calories consumed. First it lets you see your progress and it keeps you accountable.

I’m testing a few new sites because the site I have been using for almost a year appears to be having issues and half the time I can’t get it to load.

In order to make a journal of all of your weights and calories, you will of course need to know how many calories you consume each day.  Label reading and measuring is an important tip that we must constantly adhere to. I know I get lazy and eyeball things too much so I have been forcing myself back to measuring everything out.

Measure it, add it up and log it in a journal or online site. Chart that progress and make changes where needed.

Happy Dieting, see you tomorrow,

Hot Enough For You Tuesday

Biking Update

It isn’t even remotely close to full summer heat and humidity but the heat got to me for the first time yesterday on my bike ride. I was soaked in sweat by the time I got home. I need to get a water bottle next time I hit Wal-Mart because I was drained by the time I got back to my apartment.

My legs were a bit wobbly even after two days rest, but thankfully the wind wasn’t too harsh. It wasn’t easy but it also wasn’t blowing full gale force at me.  I think I probably should avoid mid afternoon rides at peak heat. From now on it should be early morning or right before dusk.

I did get my distance ride in for the week while the wind was slightly subdued.

Another bump up. Not even sure how that happened because I ate my normal meal plan and I must have sweat 5 or 6 gallons on my ride so I am perplexed and aggravated by the increase this morning.

Only good news is that Cad has been racing a lot lately so he has been eating tremendous amounts of calories to keep his energy up for his bike races. So I still have a lead on him to 185 but it has shrunk.

Yesterday’s Meal Plan

Breakfast – Red beans and sausage

Lunch – Hamburger patty, cheese slice and salad

Dinner – Tuna with avocados

Snack – Red beans

Calories – 1200

Once the beans run out I am done with them and back into full-blown low carb Atkins induction. I’m sick of all this maintaining weight. I want to get the last 17 pounds off so back into full-blown induction I will be headed as soon as my current supplies run out.

Tip Of The Day

Managing frustration is a key to success on a long-term diet but I am not really sure how to do it. 😛

I really was expecting a nice bounce down today. I thought most of the weight gain was water weight, so I figured I would be able to drop this weight quickly. I guess not. I really thought the long bike ride would put a dent in the weekend gain,  but nope, it didn’t happen.

Frustration can lead to the end of a diet. When you get really angry and frustrated with the scale and your progress you need to take your mind off the diet the best way you can think of. No not eating the entire Chinese buffet. You need to find a way to get rid of that frustration without eating.

Crank your favorite music up, watch your favorite movie, pick up a book, go for a walk, go shopping, anything. Just don’t sit around cranky and frustrated.  You need to have several activities that you enjoy that don’t revolve around eating.

You also need to have a way to vent anger and frustration when it hits. I am doing it right now on this blog and I also will be venting a bit later on another site.

We also need to be realistic when trying to manage frustration. I really shouldn’t be too frustrated. I ate way too much this past weekend. All of the food was heavy on the sodium and I didn’t work out at all, so I should expect a weight gain with some stubborn pounds. I really don’t have much right to be too frustrated.

So find ways to vent steam and activities to lessen your frustration but we also need to look at what caused the weight to stick or go up to determine if we even should be frustrated.

Happy Dieting, see you tomorrow.

So Happy I Could Dance Saturday!

I’m doing my own little happy dance this morning.

Induction is working wonders. I dropped another pound yesterday, so I am in a fantastic mood this morning.

That is a little over 4 pounds dropped this week. 😀

323/201.9/185

Yesterday’s Meal Plan

Breakfast – 3 eggs, slice of cheese and 2 slices of bacon

Lunch – Chicken thigh with onions and salad

Dinner – Hamburger patty with salad

Snack – string cheese

Calories – Approx 1200

Even Wal-Mart can’t take the smile off my face this morning. The latest news you ask? Well, as I assumed the discount they are offering for losing my bike can not be used at a local store. It has to be used online.

I will order the bike when I am done with this post, which means the bike is going to be coming around the 12th -14th.  Oh well, at least with the discount and free shipping, I basically get my helmet, gloves and air pump for free.

Plus, they tossed in an extra $10.00 because the bike can’t be shipped 1 day shipping.  So in the end, I am getting about $40.00 in discounts and another $50.00 in shipping for a total of $90.00.  Oh, $100.00 with the extra ten bucks.

Not happy about the delay but once they really screwed up by losing the bike, they have done the best they can to clean up the mess.

Now let’s just hope I really get the discounts as promised and let’s hope the bike actually gets to me this time. 😀

Tip Of The Day

Slow and steady wins the race.

Don’t dive into the diet and use all of your energy and willpower on some diet and exercise plan that kills you.

I know there is an urge to get it over with as fast as possible which then pushes us to go over the top with the diet and exercise. This will lead to burnout very quickly and then you will dump the whole plan.

I’ve been there and done that no less than 10 times in my life maybe more. I start out starving myself then I would move  on to the gym where I would push myself to exhaustion.  I would see good results but after a month or two I would be done. Mentally and physically I would be totally drained.

We all have a problem with moderation. We have the same problem when we start new diets and exercise plans because we want immediate gigantic results.

In the long run, you are much better off starting with a diet until you get a nice head of steam built up and then moving into light exercise. Then you can slowly work in more exercise as you get in better shape.

My routine has included some walking but I didn’t start walking until 6 months into my diet. Then I walked for about 3 months and then I used the cold weather as an excuse to stop. I hated it, but I didn’t use the exercise stoppage as an excuse to toss the towel in on the diet.

Since I hate walking so much, that is what led me to the bike idea. I’ve always loved bike riding so hopefully I will still love bike riding.

My point is we need to moderate our diet and exercise plan. Of course you can’t moderate it to the point it has no effect but you also shouldn’t go overboard to the point it is torture. It needs to be difficult but not so tough it wears you out mentally and physically.

The Fat Lady Has Sung Wednesday!

323/204.5/185

Hurrah! It appears the plateau has been passed. I’m about half a pound below the previous range so I declare this plateau dead and buried. Ding dong that wicked witch of a plateau is dead!

Yesterday’s Meal Plan

Breakfast – Eggs & Bacon

Lunch – Missed it. I know, I know Maria, I will try not to skip meals.

Dinner – Hamburger with salad

Snack – String cheese

It is good to be off that darn plateau. I will feel much better that I am really off it once I hit 203.  This is my second day of induction so my body could still be using carbs. I haven’t noticed any of the side effects of being in ketosis so I don’t think the body engine has switched over to burning fat yet.

I’m not sure how I am going to navigate the minefield of my birthday on the 7th. I don’t want to knock myself out of induction right after getting back in.

Bike Watch

Day 9 of bike watch with no new news to report. The Wal-Mart tracking site hasn’t been updated since February 23rd.  $405,000,000,000 in revenue each year and their own internal tracking system appears to have been created by manatees.

I need to get the darn bike and get out there before I lose interest. 😀 Hurry up Mr. Wal-Mart Order Processor. Get me my bike!

Over the weekend I finally went to see The King’s Speech. A very good movie that shows the pain fear and frustration that people with speech impediments must endure.

Concession prices. OMG! It really is getting out of control. I love how they have now disposed of the small beverage because they can’t very well charge $4.00 for a small cup of soda, so they just got rid of it. Now you have to order the small bucket, the medium bucket or the large bucket and the difference in price between the 3 is minimal so once again the fattening up of America with a giant bucket of soda. Not to mention that 1 person going to the movie and buying a soda and popcorn(none for me) ends up costing anywhere from $16.00 to $24.00 depending where you live.

The movie theater used to be the poor man’s source of entertainment. Now the poor man needs to take a loan from the bank to take his 4 kids to the movie.

Tip Of The Day

This may sound like an advertisement but since I actually use it so much to distract myself when I am feeling hungry, I’m still going to mention it.

Netflix. I can spend countless minutes just browsing the library looking for something great to watch, then I can watch it online.

We need distractions and as I sit here and type, I am watching Netflix. Heck I barely turn the television on anymore when it is not football season.

For me Netflix has been an amazing hunger distraction. The internet has millions of distractions so if Netflix is not for you there are millions of ways online to take your mind off of food and hunger. (just don’t head over to YouTube and watch Betty’s Kitchen that will not help very much. 😀 )

Yes, walking, jogging, biking, weight lifting and countless other ways to exercise would also be great distractions, but life can’t be ALL about the diet. Need to squeeze some fun and entertainment in there too.

Happy Dieting, see you tomorrow
