First Week Back – In Review

Not sure how, but it probably could have gone worse than it did. About the only good thing I did this week was I skipped the donuts yesterday. I had a terrible time trying to ween myself off of the carb overload.

This was a particularly tough week to try and kick the carbs and restart the diet.

Someone stuck several pizzas on the grazing table along with jalapenos bread.

We had cake and beignets twice. Along with Friday donuts, someone brought donuts Thursday.

I was in a lunch meeting 4 days this week. 😛

And the Wednesday free lunch was poboys and gumbo.

Tough week.

Not all bad news. I did lose weight this week. I finally stepped on the scale and it was FAR worse than I expected.

My big mistake was waiting almost to the end of the week to get on the scale. I should have jumped on the scale on Sunday and that would have motivated me to make better choices all week.

I went from having a solid week to a lousy one really fast.

I was down to 175.7 and then a little thing known as the Seafood Feast happened.

After a big pile of shrimp, catfish, hush puppies and crawfish pasta , the scale was not in a pleasant mood this morning. The ice cream didn’t help matters. 😛

I’m not upset about the feast. We only have the seafood feast about 3 times a year so there was no way I was going to pass it up. I didn’t eat too much with plate 1. The only mistake was getting an extra portion of pasta. I used to eat tons of pasta weekly. I’ve probably had it 6 times in the last 3 years so once again, I think I actually kept my old habits in check. I stopped even though I was still hungry  or we ran out of food. 😛

Instead of the normal pint of ice cream, I grabbed a cone so I was bad but I toned it down slightly.

I did have a solid Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. I’m hoping I can keep my hands off the donuts tomorrow. By Saturday I should be at least somewhat close to my Tuesday low.

At most, I gained 1 real pound. The rest is nothing more than water. No way I gained 4 pounds from 1 plate of seafood and some ice cream. The rest is water weight and it should flush out by Saturday. In theory. Just in time for the crawfish boil on Saturday which will really spike my weight with a zillion mgs of sodium.

It is a holiday weekend coupled with the annual office crawfish boil so I probably will go a bit nuts on Saturday. Then back to work on Sunday.

At least I kept the damage to one day and got right back to work. My brain tried to convince me that some McDonald’s for breakfast would be a good way to start the morning. I fought off those carb cravings although it wasn’t easy.

Breakfast – Burger patty with cheese

Lunch – None

Dinner – Pork loin with salad

Snacks – Almonds

I think I have had my fill of burgers. I think it is time to switch things up. I’ve been hitting the same regular menu for probably a year. Not sure when I last had turkey burgers but it has been a long time. I think I will probably add the turkey back into the menu next time I hit the store. I don’t like the higher sodium with the turkey burgers but I’m too lazy to get fresh ground turkey and cook it. 😛

With only three weeks to go The Contest is now neck and neck. My mistakes last week cost me big. Now Rich thinks he can win so he will dig deep to pass me this week. I need to dig deeper. 😛

I’m still at the top with almost 10% gone. But Rich is right behind me. LE had a bad week and he was up over a pound. Jess used her “Free Pass” this week so she evidently had a bad week and didn’t weigh-in.  It looks like I have at least 2nd place locked up barring some disaster or miraculous finish by someone else.  I don’t want second.

I’ve been doing my fair share of trash talking for the last 9 weeks so I need to win or I am never going to hear the end of it. 😀

The scale had me a touch grumpy this morning! That evil number it 1.4 pounds higher than my Monday morning weight!

I was up even though I only had about 1350 calories yesterday. I did order a turkey Caesar salad during a lunch meeting. That probably hit me with a big pile of sodium which caused the water gain this morning.  Darn meetings!

March is going to be very tough. Along with the normal office distractions, I have two Lunch & Learns every week through the end of the month plus 2 committee meetings. Not to mention DONUT DAY! Plenty of opportunities for disaster. 😛

Oh, not to mention my birthday was yesterday. I put it on hold. I told everyone, no birthday celebration until after the contest. 😛

I’ve been cooking today. I ran out of everything so I needed to whip up a pork loin and some burgers. I hate cleaning so I cook big batches of food and then keep them in the fridge or freezer. Then microwave as needed.

Having food ready is one key tip to avoid making bad food choices. I get into trouble if I don’t have something ready to eat after work. My brain starts telling me that picking up some General Tso’s Chicken on the way home is the smart thing to do.

The broccoli make it healthy. 😀

Weekend Wrap

Small Update

I had a solid weekend. I didn’t cheat.  I am a wee bit grumpy today because I had a real nice BIG drop yesterday but almost a pound decided to rejoin the collective today.

I can’t complain too much because I should be headed for a real good week in the weight loss competition.  This week, I should easily pass my loss total from last year’s competition.

Friday – 180.8

Saturday – 178.5

Sunday – 179.3

I had a feeling I might be a touch dehydrated on Saturday so I was expecting a little bounce back today but not 8/10 of a pound. I’m still on pace for a 3 pound drop by Thursday unless the scale continues to climb up.  It had better not. 😛

The Saturday drop was a bit of a shock, 2.3 pounds.

I was expecting a nice drop but not that nice. I didn’t believe the scale so I reset the scale and weighed again, 178.4.  So the second weigh-in was even lower. I took a shower, shaved and reset the scale again, 178.3.  I stuck with the highest number and as I said, I had a feeling it would creep up today.

I was out running errands most of the day Friday, so I didn’t have much to drink and then I fell asleep early.  I didn’t have close to the normal level of fluids for the day thus the big dehydrated number on Saturday. I’m hoping to drop some of the gain tomorrow. I had a little bit too much sodium on Saturday.  I picked up some jalapenos at the store on Friday and ate more than I should have Saturday.

The Office Competition

I’m hoping the rest of The Biggest Loser contestants slow down this week. I can’t drop any calories. The only thing I can do is start working out but I haven’t been able to find the motivation to do that.  If they keep the heat on, then I might start hitting the bike for the last 4 weeks. I’m going to wait to see the numbers on Thursday before making a decision on exercise. 😛

I kept the jalapenos under control today. I need to maintain control over those things because too many can easily cause a water weight spike.   I bought those things at Sam’s on Friday. I was just about to leave when out of the corner of my eye I spotted the giant jug of jalapenos.

I should have walked in the opposite direction but I needed something different to spice up my meals. I’m actually a little disappointed in the very mild kick from that brand. Seems like they have taken almost all of the heat out of them. 😛

I hope I can hang on to that drop tomorrow. I have a feeling I might bounce back up a little tomorrow. It would be nice to hold onto 188.5. That would be close to a 4 pound loss from last week.

The Office Contest

I’ll take 3 but 4 would be nice. 3 would put me at a 9 pound drop in the first 2 weeks. That should keep me near the top in the contest. I’ve been smack talking with the other contestants but there hasn’t been much back talk. I think the gang had a bad week. I haven’t seen JM {current leader} eating this week so he probably held the lead or built on it.

Only time will tell. I guess we shall find out tomorrow. I should find out who will be my main competition tomorrow or maybe the following week.

Those sure look good. One serious negative of living in an apartment. I can’t have a grill. I’ve tried an electric grill but it doesn’t taste nearly as good as cooking on an open flame.

I decided to keep going with the fruit until this cold is 100% gone. I’ve kept it to a piece or two so it hasn’t slowed my weight loss to this point.

3 days in a row without any real temptations at work. The free lunch was beef stew or baked chicken. Neither tempted me in the least.

candyI ran to Sam’s today for some office supplies and I had to reload the hard candy jars. Nope. Not tempted. I guess ever so slightly tempted by the butterscotch but that is it. Plus by tomorrow the clamoring hoards will have picked out all of the really good candy.
