Day 11 of 90

I dropped to 190.1 on Saturday and held onto the same weight this morning. Not sure how that is even possible to hold onto the exact same weight. I was hoping to say goodbye to the 90s but I guess I have at least one more day before that happens. I hope I haven’t stumbled onto a plateau.

I don’t think this is a real plateau and I am expecting a drop tomorrow. OR ELSE!!! ๐Ÿ˜›

Today was the first day in almost 1 week that I felt somewhat decent. My nose appears to be on the mend. I was still a little bit stuffy but nothing like the last several days.ย  I would say I am about 85% today. Afterย  a good nights sleep, I am hoping to be feeling about 100% tomorrow.

Saturday’s Calorie Count – 1475

Friday was easy but Saturday was rough. I was starving all day and night. My brain tried to convince me that ice cream was a perfectly acceptable weight loss tool. I fought off the urge by slowly eating an extra portion of almonds.

Sunday’s Menu

Breakfast – None

Lunch – Hamburger with cheese

Dinner – Pork loin with salad

Snack – Almonds

Calories – 1375

So far the almonds haven’t tempted me too much. I’ve had 2 portions a day since I bought the bag. Each portion has 180 calories and 100 mgs of sodium.

If I make it through the night without cheats, that will be 11 flawless days in a row. 79 to go! I can’t wait for the weigh-in this week to see who kept up the good work and who folded like a cheap suit. ๐Ÿ˜›

I need to keep the flawless streak going. I’ve got a nice calendar on my desk and I keep crossing the days off. It makes the diet slightly easier when I can see the start and end date and cross days off. 79 miserable days and then I should be back to where I want to be with a nice first prize award. ๐Ÿ˜€

Mardi Gras season will really start to heat up soon which means lots of King Cakes on the grazing table.

The old school King Cakes like the one above don’t tempt me much. Those are similar to a slightly sweet french bread with a colored sugar on top. The King Cakes that are like stuffed cinnamon rolls are the ones that will give me fits.

I would have a very tough time avoiding a blueberry cream cheese king cake. Very tough time indeed. ๐Ÿ˜›

Don’t Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out 2012!!!

I’ve been dreading this post. 2012 in Review. Parts of 2012 were great but the last quarter was a nightmare for the diet. The first quarter of the year, the office Biggest Loser competition helped me get all the way to 160.5 on March 28th.

I bounced up and down for the next quarter but for the most part I was under 175.ย  My ice cream addiction caused serious problems but I was still able to bounce between 165 and 175.

The wheels fell off the bus during the end of the 3rd quarter and then deep into the 4th quarter. 175 crept up to 185, then 195, then finally the PEAK…..206.

At 206, I finally panicked and I was able to get back to 191, then Thanksgiving happened. I was able to get back to 191, then Christmas happened, I haven’t been able to get back to 191.

So here I sit on January 3rd at 195.8.ย  Yikes!

It seems that I am not the only one who had a tough end of the year.ย  Several of my good friends have hit a few bumps. I am quite happy to see my friend Ed is back on the diet wagon. Welcome back Ed ! ๐Ÿ˜€

To misquote the original quote, “Those who ignore history are bound (or doomed) to repeat it.” I would love to just sweep the end of 2012 under the carpet but instead I need to examine my mistakes and learn from them so I don’t repeat them next year.

I definitely learned that I need to stay away from MREs. ๐Ÿ˜›

The BIGGEST LOSER Office Competition

If you have followed me since last year you know that my office holds a biggest loser competition at the start of the year to knock of some holiday weight and slow down Mardi Gras gains. Gail usually runs the competition and she also usually wins. She has opted out this year and I was put in charge.
Last year only 7 people were willing to take the challenge against Gail. With her out, so far 12 people have signed up. ๐Ÿ˜€

I have done a terrible job with recent weight loss competitions but I have my mojo back. I am ready to win this sucker!

I’m back on Atkins full throttle.

The Bike

Last week was terrible and this week won’t be any better. Heck, it could be worse. I’m debating my current exercise regimen. As you know, I don’t believe in heavy exercise and dieting. I think that is too much pressure and causes people to burn out and quit.

So, through the end of March, I am not going to push the exercise. I am not going to stop but instead of 4 to 5 rides a week I am probably going to stick with 3 rides a week and I am not going to push myself on time and resistance.

Today’s Menu

Breakfast – Pork loin with cheese

Lunch – None

Dinner – Hamburger patty with salad

Snack – Burger, bacon

Calories – 1350

I like the new menu. I miss the turkey burgers but my whole menu today has less sodium than 2 turkey burgers.

I stopped eating eggs a long time ago because I was so sick and tired of them.ย  I really was sick of them. The mere taste of eggs would make me ill. At some point I might bring eggs back. Or at least test them out. Those look pretty good up there.

There were plenty of leftovers from the Wednesday free lunch but I stayed away from the kitchen. Friday is almost here which means, DONUTS. I’m in charge of grabbing 4 dozen for the office tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if all of the contestants stay away from the donuts.

Maybe I should put a box in each office of the contestants. ๐Ÿ˜›

Slow Start!

The May challenge got off to a rough start. A few of you still haven’t posted your starting weights, so if anyone else wants to join in, it isn’t too late to start. We might just extend the end date to the end of the first week of June.

As you can see, I need a few starting weights. If I missed anyone or messed up a starting weight holler at me.

Now, onto the bad news.

I hide from this site and bad things happen.

I ate 3k calories of Atkins food on Thursday, then I ate TACO BELL on Friday. Yesterday I was doing fine until some ICE CREAM apparated in my hands. No idea where it came from. So after 3 bad days in a row, it is no surprise that my weight is up.

Plus I still have a wedding to go to tonight! ๐Ÿ˜›

No shock there. I’ve been real bad for 3 days. The wheels came off on the diet but they kept spinning on the bike.

Biking Update

I got my 3 rides in last week so I at least get a gold star for riding the bike.

I did 10 miles last Sunday, then 12 miles on Friday followed by 10 miles on Saturday. I was hoping for a longer ride on Saturday but my legs were beat up, sore and weak.

I’m hoping to start the week off right with a 12 mile ride today but time is running out. I need to get it done with enough time to get ready for the wedding. Which is of course why I am here procrastinating. ๐Ÿ˜›

3 days in a row might violate one of my Diet Tips.

Tip Of The Day!

Don’t push your exercise too far.

It is super easy to burn out on exercise and toss in the towel on the whole diet. I’ve done that about 20 times over the last 20 years. I used to mix my diet with a heavy dose of the gym which always ended up with me burning out.

I’m not saying lots of exercise isn’t good for you, but getting the weight off is the most important short-term goal. Once the weight is gone, then you can work yourself into better shape.

Just make sure you don’t push yourself too far. Yes, you need to push yourself some, but too far and the diet could come crashing down. It is a fine line to walk and one I have never been super successful with thus the reason I did almost zero exercise for the first year of my diet.

Point being, I might need to give my legs a rest today even though I want to get back up on the levee. If my legs were weak and wobbly yesterday they are going to be worse today. I need to look back to last year to see when the darn wind finally slowed down a bit.


I ride a bike with the BIG fat tires and I am out of shape so about 99% of the people on the levee pass me like I’m not even moving. Friday,I was riding along and I noticed I was gaining on someone with small thin tires.

My excitement level gave me a little extra energy to push ahead and pass the thin wheeled rider. Excitement continued to mount as I neared the thin wheeled bike. Euphoria washed over me as I passed the rider on to instantly disappear as I realized I was passing this guy……

Feels Like Monday!

Still hanging around 166 and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I couldn’t stop eating all weekend and that carried over to work today. Good thing there weren’t any tasty treats on the grazing table or I would have been in serious trouble. I did grab two pears. First time I have reached for some fruit since I started work. That will definitely knock my out of Ketosis but maybe I need a little short break from Atkins to restart the engine.

I really need to hit the store tomorrow. I am running on empty in the fridge and pantry. I was supposed to hit the store this evening, but I wasn’t up for it. My allergies were bugging me so I headed home and I am about to hit the sack for the night.

I think it was a smart move to skip the store. I think I would have come home with a trunk load of ice cream and pizza had I gone straight to the store from work. ๐Ÿ˜›

Tip Of The Day!

Make sure you get enough sleep. I firmly believe you lose more weight with the proper amount of sleep than if you don’t get enough. I am about to use this tip. Good night!

New Goal Monday

Boom! Done with that old goal of 185 and time to move on to the next goal of 173. ย I’ve had some people tell me that I need to stop because I have lost all I need to lose. Well they haven’t seen me in the mirror in the morning. ๐Ÿ˜›

I’ve still got plenty left to lose. ย I’m 6 feet tall so the healthy weight range for me is about 140 to 184. ย I’m shooting for 173 but once I get there I will re-evaluate. Good chance 170 will be my final destination. Maybe 169 just so I can break the 60 barrier, but 170 is probably where I will want to maintain my weight.

I swear that sometimes when I look down at the scale I think I am hallucinating. Just doesn’t seem possible. ๐Ÿ˜€

I added a new belt hole to my old belt so I am now just about 18 inches lost on the belt. ย The final weight battle is being fought at my stomach. Those pesky pounds are all making their final defense line on my old beer belly. ย Hopefully their defenses will fall apart soon and they will disappear.

Biking Update

I use an online wind gauge to give me an idea of the wind conditions before heading out. Well, that wind gauge is a big stinking liar. ย It indicated 5-7 mph winds. 5-7 mph winds barely move the trees at all but the trees outside where swaying all over the place. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

More river watchers were up there again. Not sure why, the river never really got that high and now that they opened both spillways the water is going down.

My legs were totally shot from my 20 mile ride on Saturday. I looked up the calorie burn for a 20 mile ride and was shocked to see it was about 1000 calories. Eek! No wonder I was a tad weak on Sunday.

As I mentioned before, the day after a long ride will always be a short ride. The first 3.2 miles were easy with the wind at my back, but the last 3.2 miles were a serious pain in the butt. I actually passed one guy, he needs to see a doctor. ๐Ÿ˜›

It is supposed to be SUPER DUPER CRAZY windy today so I may skip my Monday ride and swap it with my day off on Wednesday. Tune in tomorrow to find out. ๐Ÿ˜›

Tip Of The Day


This seems obvious but people do it all the time. They go to the gym, work out for 30 minutes and then head to taco bell because they feel they had a great workout. What they don’t realize is they didn’t burn nearly the amount of calories they think they burned and then they run off and gorge themselves on 1500 calories of taco bell.

NO! Never use food as a reward. Never. This does not mean you can’t cheat now and then. I am a proponent of cheats, but not rewards for reaching goals or hard work outs. We need to get away from the mindset that food is a rewards and food is a source of comfort. That is what got us here in the first place.

Never run 3 miles and then head to McDonald’s as a reward. You will eat far more than you burned.

Reward yourself with new clothes or anything but food. ย Rewarding yourself with food is taking one step forward and 4 miles backwards.

I give you this tip because my brain is trying to convince me that I deserve a reward for reaching 185 and my brain seems to think I should head here.

Not going to happen. I would like to hit the Chinese buffet because it has been just about 1 year since I last hit one but nope, not going to cave in. ย Not sure, but the sodium content at a Chinese buffet might kill me. I would probably put on 5 pounds of water weight just looking at that buffet.

No rewarding yourself for a job well done with food. Once again, this does not mean you can never cheat. That is a separate issue which I have discussed numerous times. Planned cheats are necessary to keep your sanity. ย We just need to break the mental stranglehold food has over us so we need to stop using food as a reward or food for comfort.
