I went from having a solid week to a lousy one really fast.

I was down to 175.7 and then a little thing known as the Seafood Feast happened.

After a big pile of shrimp, catfish, hush puppies and crawfish pasta , the scale was not in a pleasant mood this morning. The ice cream didn’t help matters. 😛

I’m not upset about the feast. We only have the seafood feast about 3 times a year so there was no way I was going to pass it up. I didn’t eat too much with plate 1. The only mistake was getting an extra portion of pasta. I used to eat tons of pasta weekly. I’ve probably had it 6 times in the last 3 years so once again, I think I actually kept my old habits in check. I stopped even though I was still hungry  or we ran out of food. 😛

Instead of the normal pint of ice cream, I grabbed a cone so I was bad but I toned it down slightly.

I did have a solid Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. I’m hoping I can keep my hands off the donuts tomorrow. By Saturday I should be at least somewhat close to my Tuesday low.

Weight Statistics


At most, I gained 1 real pound. The rest is nothing more than water. No way I gained 4 pounds from 1 plate of seafood and some ice cream. The rest is water weight and it should flush out by Saturday. In theory. Just in time for the crawfish boil on Saturday which will really spike my weight with a zillion mgs of sodium.

It is a holiday weekend coupled with the annual office crawfish boil so I probably will go a bit nuts on Saturday. Then back to work on Sunday.

At least I kept the damage to one day and got right back to work. My brain tried to convince me that some McDonald’s for breakfast would be a good way to start the morning. I fought off those carb cravings although it wasn’t easy.

Dinner – Pork loin with salad

Snacks – Almonds

I think I have had my fill of burgers. I think it is time to switch things up. I’ve been hitting the same regular menu for probably a year. Not sure when I last had turkey burgers but it has been a long time. I think I will probably add the turkey back into the menu next time I hit the store. I don’t like the higher sodium with the turkey burgers but I’m too lazy to get fresh ground turkey and cook it. 😛

Stupid Pattern & The Mardi Gras Hermit

The annoying pattern continues. It looks like my low weight for the week will probably be Monday with 182.6.  I was 182.7 on Sunday and now I am back to 182.7 today.  I’m going to keep the calories around 1200 today but if that scale moves up tomorrow I really might smash the thing into tiny pieces.

Today is Mardi Gras day. I’ve been a hermit this year and haven’t done any of the normal Mardi Gras festivities. I didn’t have a single piece of King Cake this year.  Not one!

The weather hasn’t been very cooperative the last couple of days so I stayed indoors and skipped the parades. Sometimes you need to be a hermit to get the scale moving in the right direction.

Tomorrow is free lunch Wednesday and Cindy already told me that we will be having the Seafood Feast.

We only have the Seafood Feast about 3 times a year so I hate to skip out on it. Well, I don’t have to worry about it. I’ve been tasked to bring our survey boat over to Texas so I will be out of the office Wednesday through Friday.  The good news is that I will miss the Free Lunch. The bad news is that I will be eating on the road for 3 days. Yikes!

Even selecting the healthy options, I am still going to get smacked with sodium bombs. Doesn’t matter what you get at a restaurant, it is still going to be SOAKED in salt.

I am allowed to weigh-in early if out of the office, so I am going to weigh-in tomorrow. Hopefully, I stick to wise meal choices while out of town but it is going to be a rough 3 days.

41 days without a single cheat. I think that must be a record.  I am sad that I didn’t get a single piece of King Cake. I compromised.  That Mardi Gras King Cake flavored Blue Bell ice cream somehow found its way into my freezer.  Once the contest is over, I will at least have a little bit of Mardi Gras in my ice cream bowl. 😛

I’m not sure if it will be any good but I will probably love it since I will have gone 90 days without any sweets. I just need to make sure I don’t dive in until the contest is OVER.

I’m out of pork loin and don’t feel like cooking anything until I get back from Texas.

The Contest

I was on pace for a 2 pound drop this week but I am not sure the office scale will be that nice to me tomorrow. With my weekly pattern, it might actually be better for me to weigh-in a day early.

I could wait until Thursday and use the scale in the Texas office but I don’t know how their scale is calibrated.  Based on the other guys who have been in Texas on weigh day, I think their scale gives a low ball weight.   That would be good for this week, but bad for next week.

I really need Jess to have a bad week but she is working out like a demon with her gym boot camp.

I’m hoping she finally starts adding some muscle which could slow her weight loss.   The guy in 3rd place went on vacation for a week, so I think he will probably come back a few pounds heavier. Mr. National Guard used his free pass last week because he ate everything not nailed down, and his mouth continued to be in control this week.

Hmmmmm. I wonder if the Powers That Be were bribed by Jess to send me on the road. 😛

Oh well, wish me luck. I probably won’t be able to report on the week 6 results until Friday night or Saturday.

That would be how I started the morning. I hit Baker’s Dozen at 6am to pick up the Friday Donuts. 2 dozen glazed, one mixed and one mixed cake.  4 free blueberry cake. I thought long and hard about taking the bag of blueberry cake to my office. Yes, I did. However, in the end I walked away.

At 2pm, there was still a whole box of donuts and magically a Doberge Cake appeared on the table. So did a dozen sweet potato drop biscuits.

For some inexplicable reason, someone also put out a GIANT SALAD.  I turned my head for a single second and…….

Someone snuck some chips and salsa on the table. Salty and sweet well represented by the evil grazing table.

I was victorious!!!

I didn’t touch anything. Not a single bite. Not a single crumb. Nothing. I’m not even sure how I was able to maintain control especially given my sour mood.  The mood was sour because for day 8, I am the same weight. I’ve been on plateaus before but this is getting a bit crazy. I’ve had 10 straight good diet days and I’ve had plenty of exercise. Yet the evil scale is thumbing its nose at me.

Screeching to a halt

I feel a plateau coming. I’ve had almost 3 flawless weeks and the weight is starting to drizzle off. The scale barely moved a notch today. Just a tiny drop of .2 of a pound. I guess that is still a 1.4 pound a week drop but I’ll never keep up with you ladies and gents at that rate.

I haven’t completely crashed to a halt but I think tomorrow will be the first day with zero loss. In fact, I ate a little too much fresh pork loin this evening and I used a bit too much Tony C so the scale might even creep up tomorrow.

I’m out of pistachios. My 12 day supply only lasted 8.5 days. Actually, for tasty snack food, I think I did pretty good making them last 8.5 days. The Wasabi Almonds and Wasabi peas never lasted that long. SO…. even though I have always hated tiny individual packages, they did help me with portion control.

I’m going to be snackless for a while because still have 2 bags of chicken breasts and half a pork loin left. I might go to the store tonight or tomorrow but I hate going to the store unless it is for a full-blown load up. I do need to gas up the car which I usually do at Sam’s so I might as well reload on snacks.

EDITED: Back from the store with 2 boxes of pistachios. Nice to make an impromptu trip to the store without grabbing some ice cream. 😀

I Miss My Computer. RIP!

I think it is the motherboard and I am waiting to get a RMA number from Gigabyte. Then I will need to send the board back to them and wait to get a board back.  That could take weeks! I thought about just buying another board but decided I shouldn’t toss $175.00 in the trash when it is under warranty.

I had a slight bounce up this morning. That was caused by my switch from Jenni-O turkey burgers to Butterball. I didn’t notice the LARGE sodium difference. 200 mgs for Jenni-O and 680 mgs for Butterball. I have to admit, Butterball makes a SUPERIOR PRODUCT. It helps that butterball uses more salt thus more taste but their turkey burgers actually taste like turkey.  Plus they don’t appear to be pumped with fluid to add fake weight. The burgers were almost the same size cooked. JO shrinks a good bit in the oven. My sodium was over 3k yesterday which led to the water gain on 1300 calories.

Lunch – Eggs with cheese, green onions and mushrooms, Jimmy Dean sausage

Dinner – Baked chicken with salad

Snack – 1/2 turkey burger with cheese

Calories – 1550

Good job with the calories but once again the sodium was real high with the turkey burgers and sausage. I did pass on the pancakes and sweet rolls.


Where is everyone? Get back to work. I spotted you ladies and gents a huge handicap and I was able to reverse it, so there is plenty of time for any of you to get back in the race. I should be down about 2 from the start of the competition.  Not insurmountable.  Get back to work or I will talk smack on your sites. 😀

Biking Update

It rained Friday, I fell asleep and it was raining yesterday and then Mother’s Day duties kept me away until about 4pm. Then I procrastinated until dark. I’m hoping to get back up there tomorrow when I get back from work.

Tip Of The Day

Sometime you just have to fight through the frustration. I wanted those donuts on Friday just like I wanted some pancakes and sweet rolls this morning. Not to mention the ice cream my brain wanted yesterday to celebrate my full employment. During those challenges, you need to think long and hard about what you are doing and why you are doing it. You also need to think back to the past when you were larger.

This is a good time to put on some old clothes or an old belt to see how far you have come. I just took a second to think of the trash talk I would take on this site if I lose my May challenge. That was enough to get me back on the straight and narrow pathway. Speaking of straight and narrow pathways, check out this video.
