Don’t Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out 2012!!!

I’ve been dreading this post. 2012 in Review. Parts of 2012 were great but the last quarter was a nightmare for the diet. The first quarter of the year, the office Biggest Loser competition helped me get all the way to 160.5 on March 28th.

I bounced up and down for the next quarter but for the most part I was under 175.  My ice cream addiction caused serious problems but I was still able to bounce between 165 and 175.

The wheels fell off the bus during the end of the 3rd quarter and then deep into the 4th quarter. 175 crept up to 185, then 195, then finally the PEAK…..206.

At 206, I finally panicked and I was able to get back to 191, then Thanksgiving happened. I was able to get back to 191, then Christmas happened, I haven’t been able to get back to 191.

So here I sit on January 3rd at 195.8.  Yikes!

It seems that I am not the only one who had a tough end of the year.  Several of my good friends have hit a few bumps. I am quite happy to see my friend Ed is back on the diet wagon. Welcome back Ed ! 😀

To misquote the original quote, “Those who ignore history are bound (or doomed) to repeat it.” I would love to just sweep the end of 2012 under the carpet but instead I need to examine my mistakes and learn from them so I don’t repeat them next year.

I definitely learned that I need to stay away from MREs. 😛

The BIGGEST LOSER Office Competition

If you have followed me since last year you know that my office holds a biggest loser competition at the start of the year to knock of some holiday weight and slow down Mardi Gras gains. Gail usually runs the competition and she also usually wins. She has opted out this year and I was put in charge.
Last year only 7 people were willing to take the challenge against Gail. With her out, so far 12 people have signed up. 😀

I have done a terrible job with recent weight loss competitions but I have my mojo back. I am ready to win this sucker!

I’m back on Atkins full throttle.

The Bike

Last week was terrible and this week won’t be any better. Heck, it could be worse. I’m debating my current exercise regimen. As you know, I don’t believe in heavy exercise and dieting. I think that is too much pressure and causes people to burn out and quit.

So, through the end of March, I am not going to push the exercise. I am not going to stop but instead of 4 to 5 rides a week I am probably going to stick with 3 rides a week and I am not going to push myself on time and resistance.

Today’s Menu

Breakfast – Pork loin with cheese

Lunch – None

Dinner – Hamburger patty with salad

Snack – Burger, bacon

Calories – 1350

I like the new menu. I miss the turkey burgers but my whole menu today has less sodium than 2 turkey burgers.

I stopped eating eggs a long time ago because I was so sick and tired of them.  I really was sick of them. The mere taste of eggs would make me ill. At some point I might bring eggs back. Or at least test them out. Those look pretty good up there.

There were plenty of leftovers from the Wednesday free lunch but I stayed away from the kitchen. Friday is almost here which means, DONUTS. I’m in charge of grabbing 4 dozen for the office tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if all of the contestants stay away from the donuts.

Maybe I should put a box in each office of the contestants. 😛

I’m out.

Happy Dieting & Happy New Year,

Mistakes Mistakes and More Mistakes!

I should know better. I skipped breakfast this morning and by the time the Free Lunch showed up I was famished. I held out for about an hour then decided to head up and just grab a salad. Yeah right. The second I got up there….

that guy took over my brain and I had some meatball poboys and gumbo to go with my tiny salad.

Today’s Menu

Breakfast – None

Lunch – Meatball poboys, cup of gumbo and salad

Dinner – Pork loin with cheese

Calories – Around 2000

Not a total disaster. I didn’t eat until exploding.  Just when I was about to head back into ketosis, I eat a giant pile of carbs.  There weren’t many leftovers so at least I won’t be tempted tomorrow. 😛

I need to STOP the cycle of disasters!

The Bike

Wal-Mart did process the bike and the tracking claims it was picked up by FedEx. I’ll believe it when I see it. I sure hope it arrives by the 19th but given my track record with Wal-Mart,  it might be around T-Giving. 😛

The Scale

I had to run to Sam’s for work so while I was there I picked up some batteries for my scale. However, I doubt I will check my weight tomorrow after the poboys. For now, my scale is still experiencing technical difficulties. Ohhh. I wonder if the scale is broken and it isn’t the battery!

The Race To 165

My step-dad came up with a good punishment for losing. His high school was the arch-rival of my high school. If I lose, I have to wear a De La Salle hat at the next big family event. If he loses, he has to wear a Jesuit hat. 😀

He is only 7 pounds away while I am at least 3240330 away. Or so it seems. I’ll find out on Friday when I check the scale.

Happy Dieting, see you tomorrow

PS – STUPID SITE JUST TRIED TO DELETE MY POST AGAIN.

The Grumpy Man

The Bike!!!

I went ahead and ordered the bike. I sure HOPE that this order goes better than the last bike I ordered from Wal-Mart. See my posts in March of 2010 for the Wal-Mart comedy of errors.  It already appears to be delayed. Originally the site said by the 16th I could pick it up and now it states I should be able to pick it up within the next 2 weeks. 😛

Weight Statistics

I have no idea. Something appears to have happened to my scale.

No! I didn’t bash my scale to pieces even though that would probably feel pretty good. After almost 3 years the batteries finally died. I thought about buying a new scale because I am tired of having to weigh my leg every day to reset the scale so it will show me a different weight each day. I even thought about getting a nice wi-fi scale but I just  couldn’t pull the trigger on a $160.00 scale.

I was too darn hungry to head to the store after work today.  I’ll try to get some new batteries tomorrow.

Today’s Menu

Breakfast –  Pork loin with cheese

Lunch – None

Dinner – Chicken with cheese and salad

Calories – 1000

Holy smokes it was tough at work today. There was a manager’s meeting and they had leftover pizza and a few other tasty treats on the grazing table.

That pizza was calling my name. LOUD & CLEAR! EAT ME!  I had to walk back and forth past that table about 12 times. Thankfully, someone finally ate the pizza before I cracked.

I’ve had a couple of low carb days in a row for the first time in a LONG time so I am hoping for a nice WHOOSH tomorrow.

The Race

We haven’t decided what the reward will be for the first person to 165. My step day ONLY needs to lose 7 pounds. I need to lose about 97 pounds. Seems like I should get some odds or better reward for winning. 😀

I’m going to have to kill myself on that bike if it ever arrives. With my luck, the darn thing won’t even arrive before Sam wins the bet. 😛

Happy Dieting, see you tomorrow

Low???

I’m not as low as Congressional ratings but thanks to a little stomach ailment last night I am at a new ALL TIME LOW! Ha! 😀

Weight Statistics

323/163.3/159

Woot! It took a LONG LONG LONG time to get back to a new low. I hit 163.7 back in October and since then I have been bouncing up and down but never back below 164 until now. I’m not sure how long it will stick. I might be a little dehydrated from the stomach ailment so I might bounce up a little tomorrow. I hope I at least stick in the 163 range because I was only there for 1 day back in October. It would be nice to keep moving the scale DOWN……. down……… down……..

Today’s Menu

Breakfast – Turkey burger with cheese

Lunch – Turkey burger with cheese

Dinner – Baked chicken with salad

Calories – 1350

I do have some potential temptation tomorrow. I am going over to my stepsister’s for dinner. I think I have enough willpower and motivation to get through unscathed no matter what. If I can keep the scale moving, I might be able to gain some serious ground on Gail in the competition. She is over due for a bad week or a plateau! I still can’t get over the fact she took 7 days off work and her daughter was married and yet she still lost weight. 😛

Bike

I’m not sure what to do about the bike riding. I fear that I might put some weight on if I start riding. I haven’t touched the bike in 3 months so I have dropped some muscle in the legs and if I start riding, I might add some weight. In the long run it is of course better for me, but in the last 18 days of the competition, I am not sure it is the right move. I can’t decide.

Procrastination sounds good to me at the moment. 😛

Tip Of The Day

Adjust expectations

Rome wasn’t built-in a day!

You didn’t gain the weight over night so don’t expect it to melt away. Don’t set your goals too high or you will be aggravated and disappointed. Set attainable mini-goals. Eventually you will get to your final goal but don’t set unrealistic completion dates. It took years to gain all the weight so make sure you are realistic when setting your goals.

Happy Dieting, see you tomorrow

End Of Week 1

I had a nice start to the new job. I’m still pretty darn excited even though the scale is being a stinker.

Weight Statistics

323/164.8/165

No movement this morning. I was hoping for at least a little dip because I didn’t eat much yesterday.

Yesterday’s Menu

Breakfast – Turkey burger and cheese

Lunch – Skipped

Dinner – Turkey burger with cheese and salad

Snack – Bacon

Calories – 725

Don’t worry. I wasn’t trying to eat a low number of calories. I just couldn’t get to lunch and then I had some things to do Thursday night and didn’t get home until 10 pm.

Eating so late wrecked my sleep. It took me forever to fall asleep. Probably had about 4 hours last night.

I’m a bit surprised I am still up. 😛

Donuts Donuts and More Donuts

Friday is donuts day! Boxes and boxes of donuts.  My office is on one side of the kitchen and my boss is on the other side. I think I went back and forth about 15 times today. Each time, giant boxes of donuts tempted me.

They looked really good! 😛

Nope. I didn’t grab one but I think I probably will have some form of cheat this weekend. It’s been two weeks since my last cheat so I am due.

Tip Of The Day

I’ve talked about lacking endgame motivation and it so happens my pal Optifast Loser has had a bit of a lull in his motivation. It happens.

Most people quit diets about 8 hours after they start. Then some people last a week. Others last about a month. Some people really work hard for a couple of months. I bet the percentage of people who quit before the two month mark is somewhere around 100%.

I would imagine the people who keep going after that, make up a very tiny percentage of dieters.

If it is hard for people to keep it up for a few weeks, then of course it is going to be very tough to keep motivation to keep it up until you reach your final goal,

You need to keep taking before after shots to look at to see how far you have come and to see where you do not wish to return.

You need to keep weighing yourself. The second you put the scale away the diet is over and you might as well pull out the stretch pants. Never ever put the scale back under the bed or in a closet.

Our bad habits are still lurking and waiting for us to slip. A slip won’t kill you unless you stay down. You need to get back up and get back to work and dig deep to find that motivation to reach that final goal.

It may be a constant battle but it can and will happen. Shonnie was stuck for a LONG TIME. 😛

But she finally caught a 14th wind and she has been a weight loss demon for the last 2 months. 😀

Now if only the last 9 pounds would politely get the heck off my body I would be a happy camper. 😀

Happy Dieting, see you tomorrow
